MUSCAT : The announcement was made by French President Emmanuel Macron, who expressed his gratitude to Oman for its crucial role in securing Arnaud’s freedom.

In a statement on the ‘X’ platform, President Macron said, “I thank our Omani friends and all those who worked for this happy ending.” He also urged the release of three other French citizens still detained in Iran.

Arnaud, a banking consultant in his 30s, was arrested while traveling through Iran in 2022. He was later sentenced to five years in prison on national security charges, coinciding with the widespread protests that erupted following the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody.

While celebrating Arnault’s release, President Macron called for the release of three other French citizens currently detained in Iran: Cécile, Jacques, and Olivier.
