MUSCAT : The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority of Oman has highlighted the significant risks associated with petrol stations, especially during the summer months when high temperatures can exacerbate the likelihood of fires.

Key contributing factors include driver noncompliance with safety instructions, use of unsuitable containers, and fuel leaks from vehicle tanks during refuelling.

To mitigate these dangers, the Directorate General for Civil Protection has issued several safety procedures. Motorists are advised to comply with all safety instructions, avoid using mobile phones, and refrain from smoking while at petrol stations. Additionally, ensuring that the fuel nozzle is removed before moving the vehicle is crucial to prevent accidents.

Employee training on handling emergencies and fires in their early stages is also emphasized. Proper handling of static electricity discharge and using containers that meet safety specifications are essential preventive measures.
