CAIRO: The forum, themed “Addressing Inequality in Light of Multiple Crises,” brought together policymakers, decision-makers, and civil society organizations from across the Arab region. Oman’s delegation, spearheaded by Her Excellency Laila bint Ahmed bin Awadh Al Najjar, contributed significantly to the discussions aimed at finding practical solutions to inequality exacerbated by current global challenges.

Participants reviewed successful practices from regions that have reduced inequalities during crises and discussed long-term policies to mitigate risks and ensure stability. Key sessions explored topics such as global and regional drivers of crises, daily realities, and protecting human rights during times of instability.

A notable highlight was the tenth meeting of the ESCWA expert group on social protection system reform, where progress by member countries, including Oman, was assessed. Delegates shared their experiences, challenges, and best practices, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive social protection systems in addressing inequality.

The forum also focused on the “Jusoor Initiative,” targeting job seekers in the Arab region, and emphasized innovative solutions at policy levels to alleviate inequality in both short and long terms.
