IRAQ: The Fifth West Asian Athletics Championship concluded with Oman’s national athletics team earning an impressive tally of 10 medals, showcasing the country’s athletic excellence. The event, held at Basra Sports City, saw Omani athletes clinch 3 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals across various disciplines.


Salem bin Saeed Al Amri, Chairman of the Omani Athletics Federation, expressed pride in the team’s performance. Al Amri emphasized that these victories highlight the significant development and consistent achievements of Omani athletes.
A landmark moment of the championship was the women’s relay team’s debut, where they secured the gold medal in a fiercely contested race. The youth team also made their mark by winning gold, setting the stage for future competitions, including the upcoming Arab Championship in Egypt and the World Athletics Championship.

Among the standout performances, Al-Mulham Al-Balushi took gold in the 100m race, clocking in at 10.25 seconds. The men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams also brought home gold medals.
Silver medals were earned by Azza Al-Yarubiyah in both the 100m (12.01s) and 200m (24.77s) races, and Heba Al-Asmiyeh in the javelin throw (40.67m).
Bronze medals were awarded to Salem Al-Rawahi in the long jump and triple jump (15.40m), Muzoon Al-Alawiya in the 100m hurdles (15.61s), and Muhammad Al-Saadi in the 200m race (21.01s).
The Omani team’s roster included 15 dedicated athletes: Barakat Al-Harithi, Ali Al-Balushi, Mubin Al-Kindi, Muhammad Al-Saadi, Khaled Al-Ghailani, Hamza Al-Jabri, Mulham Al-Balushi, Salem Al-Rawahi, Hana Al-Qasimia, Azza Al-Yarubiyah, Mazoon Al-Alawiya, Alaa Al-Zadjali, Doha Al-Sanawi, Azza Al-Hanaiya, and Heba Al-Asimiya.
