Muscat – ‘ADAMAS’ was launched at the shipyard of Zamakona Yards in the Spanish city of Viejo, under the patronage of the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Kingdom of Spain, and with the participation of several officials and FDO’s shipbuilding partners.

“The launch of ‘ADAMAS’ is an affirmation of our commitment towards expanding responsible fishing by adopting the latest technologies and ensuring sustainability in the field of commercial fishing,” stated an announcement from FDO.

‘ADAMAS’ joins its sister ship, ‘ACILA’, which has been operating successfully in Omani and international waters of the Indian Ocean for the past year, primarily targeting tuna.

The new vessel boasts a modern design that prioritizes responsible fishing practices and adheres to principles of maritime sustainability. Equipped with the latest advancements in fishing and communication technologies, ADAMAS measures 84 meters in length, boasts a cruising speed of 17 knots, and offers a storage capacity of 1,200 tons per voyage.

The ship is set to sail directly to the Indian Ocean, where it will commence fishing operations alongside ACILA. This collaborative effort reinforces the Sultanate of Oman’s leadership in the maritime sector and ensures the nation capitalizes on its tuna fishery resources.

Nabil bin Salem Al Bimani, CEO of FDO, emphasized the group’s commitment to strategically expand its fleet based on evolving fishing data, market opportunities, and the availability of fishing licenses. He also outlined plans to increase the geographical scope of operations by securing fishing agreements with partner nations.

He further announced that the tuna and sardine canning factory, which has begun its operations in Duqm, will be opened this year, and that work is currently underway on a group of projects related to enhancing the added value of fish wealth.
