Muscat: A woman in Muscat lost over RO 10,000 to a fraudster who posed as a bank employee. The fraudster, now under arrest, managed to deceive the woman into disclosing her One Time Pin (OTP), enabling him to withdraw the substantial amount from her account.
According to a statement by the Royal Oman Police, the incident took place when the fraudster, an individual of Asian nationality, contacted the woman under the pretense of being a bank employee. He convinced her that she needed to update her banking information. Trusting his seemingly official capacity, the woman provided the OTP, which is a security measure used to verify transactions. This lapse allowed the fraudster to access her account and make significant withdrawals.
