Oman’s Foreign Minister, UN Secretary-General call for end to Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories

MUSCAT : During the meeting, both parties underscored the importance of the existing cooperation between Oman and the United Nations, praising the fruitful partnerships and initiatives in various fields, including humanitarian aid, environmental conservation, and sustainable development. They also reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, stability, and justice based on the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

Amidst discussions, the urgent need to address grave global challenges was highlighted, particularly focusing on the dire conditions in the Gaza Strip and Palestinian territories. The meeting condemned the ongoing illegal Israeli occupation and the escalation of violence, which contravene international conventions and humanitarian norms, exacerbating human suffering.

Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized the imperative of holding Israel accountable for its actions, urging for an immediate ceasefire, the lifting of the siege, and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid. He stressed the significant responsibility of the international community, especially the UN Security Council, in resolving the crisis.

Secretary-General Guterres commended Oman’s constructive role in promoting peace and stability, fostering dialogue, and bridging differences regionally and internationally.

Both sides reiterated that a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict necessitates the establishment of a two-state solution and the end of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. They emphasized the importance of adhering to relevant Security Council resolutions and achieving the aspirations of the Palestinian people for an independent state.

The meeting was attended by H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, H.E. Khalid Muhammad Khiari, Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, along with other officials from both delegations.
