MUSCAT : Dr. Al Jabri highlighted Oman Sail’s journey since its inception in 2008, under the auspices of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the patronage of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. The foundation’s mission revolves around reviving Oman’s maritime glory, promoting the country through sailing, and creating opportunities for youth while contributing to sustainable development.

One of Oman Sail’s core initiatives is nurturing young talent in sailing to represent Oman at regional and international forums as proficient ambassadors. This focus has yielded significant achievements, including international medal wins and hosting prestigious events.

Dr. Al Jabri outlined two key program types within Oman Sail: local programs to groom junior sailors and attract renowned international events with a tourism angle. These efforts not only bolster Oman’s sporting prowess but also contribute significantly to economic sectors as per Oman Vision 2040’s priorities.

Looking ahead to 2024, Oman Sail is gearing up for a series of events, including Musanna Sailing Week, a summer camp in Ras Al Hadd, the Oman Sailing Championship, and various international competitions across Europe and Asia. These engagements not only showcase Oman’s maritime splendor but also elevate its position in the global sporting arena.

The CEO emphasized notable achievements in 2024, such as the Musannah Sailing School’s accreditation as an Asian training center and the national sailing team’s impressive medal haul at the Arab Sailing Championship and Gulf Youth Games.

The recently launched Oman Sports Events Center, a partnership between Oman Sail and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, aims to further enhance Oman’s sports and tourism sectors by strategically planning and hosting regional and international sporting events.
