Oman weather: Heavy rain, potential flash floods expected on April 16

Oman Meteorology has issued Warning 3 for heavy rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday, April 16; the alert begins tonight at 10 pm and lasts until Tuesday, 10 pm.

MUSCAT : As per the forecast heavy thunderstorms accompanied by active downward winds and hailstones are expected in Musandam Governorate (50-150 mm), and rainfall ranging between 30-120 mm in Al-Buraimi, Al-Dhahirah, North Al Batinah, and Al Dakhiliyah governorates.

Residents in Muscat, South Al Batinah, North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah, and northern Al Wusta Governorate are advised to remain vigilant as well. These conditions may lead to flowing reefs and wadis.
The Civil Aviation Authority stresses utmost caution during thunderstorms, advising against crossing valleys and avoiding low-lying areas. Additionally, sea travel is discouraged during the warning period.
Alerts include heavy rain with hailstones (50-150 mm), active downward winds (15-45 knots), sea wave heights ranging from 1-3 meters, and reduced horizontal visibility during thunderstorms.

The National Center for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards and the Civil Aviation Authority remind the public to stay informed and follow safety guidelines. Further updates will be provided if necessary within 24 hours.
