Muscat: The alert, effective from 3:00 AM to 7:00 PM, highlights the potential for thunderstorms, strong downdraft winds, and hail, posing risks of flash floods in certain areas.

The governorates of North Al Sharqiya, South Al Sharqiya, AL Dakhylia, Muscat, and South AL Batinah are expected to experience heavy thunderstorms with rainfall amounts ranging from 30-120 mm. This could lead to flash floods in wadis and low-lying areas.

Other areas such as Al Dhahira, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, and parts of Al Wusta governorate may also experience varying intensity rain during the alert period.

The Civil Aviation Authority advises the public to take precautions during thundershower rain, avoid crossing wadis, steer clear of low-lying areas, and refrain from sailing during the alert period.

The alert outlines risks such as strong downdraft winds with speeds ranging from 15-45 knots (28 – 83 km/h), increased sea state along Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts (2-3 meters), and reduced horizontal visibility during thundershowers.

The alert is part of the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center’s efforts to keep citizens informed and safe during adverse weather conditions.
