Muscat: On Saturday, April 13, 2024, Oman’s meteorological authorities issued a heavy rain warning specifically targeting the mountainous regions encompassing the Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, North Al Sharqiyah, and Al Dhahirah governorates. The alert, set to start at 12:00 PM and extend until 10:00 PM, emphasizes the potential dangers associated with thundershowers, downdrafts, and flash floods, particularly in wadi areas.

The Civil Aviation Authority has detailed the weather forecast, predicting thundershowers with rainfall ranging between 10 to 30 millimetres. This weather pattern is expected to bring about downdrafts and reduced horizontal visibility during the thundershower periods. Moreover, flash floods in wadis are a significant concern, prompting authorities to issue strict safety guidelines.

To ensure public safety, the Civil Aviation Authority advises residents to steer clear of low-lying areas and wadis during the heavy rain. Swimming in wadis is strongly discouraged due to the heightened risk of flash floods. Crossing wadis in vehicles is also cautioned against, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding oneself and others, especially children, from potential hazards.
