Muscat – These guidelines aim to inform citizens and residents about the importance of adhering to safety and cleanliness standards when purchasing sacrificial animals, thereby reducing health risks associated with consuming contaminated meat.
The Ministry emphasizes the necessity of selecting animals free from diseases, as livestock carrying illnesses pose significant health hazards to humans. It strongly advises individuals to opt for slaughtering their animals at municipal slaughterhouses to maintain public health standards.
Furthermore, the Ministry highlights several precautionary measures that must be followed before, during, and after the slaughter process, including:

  • Checking animals for external parasites such as ticks, as some diseases may not exhibit visible symptoms in livestock. However, the presence of ticks does not necessarily indicate the presence of disease.
  • Ensuring that the person performing the slaughter is in good health and free from injuries or wounds, and that protective clothing is worn during the process.
  • Proper disposal of slaughter waste in a hygienic manner to prevent the spread of infections, avoiding disposal in open areas where it may lead to transmission of diseases.
The Ministry underscores the importance of these measures in preventing the spread of diseases shared between humans and animals, such as Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, which is transmitted by ticks and can be fatal. It further explains that common diseases affecting livestock can be transmitted to humans through various means, including respiratory, digestive, and skin contact, as well as through insect bites.
The Ministry urges everyone to adhere to these instructions diligently when purchasing sacrificial animals, in order to ensure a safe and healthy Eid celebration for all.
