MUSCAT : The award is divided into three main categories – culture, arts and literature – with each category further divided into subcategories.
The Culture category will be devoted to Omani environmental studies, the Arts to radio programs, and the Literature to classical Arabic poetry.
The Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Letters is an annual award that is alternatively given every two years – once to Omanis only and the next to Arabs in general.
The award honours intellectuals, artists and writers for their cultural contributions to renewing thought and elevating human conscience, and to emphasize Omani contributions in the past, the present and the future.
The award, which was established in 2011, seeks to support the cultural, artistic and literary fields as a way to enhance human civilizational progress, contribute to the movement of scientific development and intellectual enrichment, consolidate the process of knowledge accumulation, and open the doors of competition in the fields of science and knowledge based on research and innovation.
