Muscat: During the initial phase of the holy month, authorities have noted a concerning rise in dangerous driving habits that jeopardize road safety for all motorists. Brigadier General Engineer Ali bin Sulayem Al-Falahi emphasized two primary wrong behaviours that demand immediate attention and corrective action.

“The most prominent wrong behavioursthat were monitored during the first ten days of the holy month of Ramadan, which pose a threat to everyone’s safety on the roads, are driving at excessive speed and recklessness, and being
busy outside the road by using the phone while driving, which distracts the driver’s attention and makes him vulnerable to accidents, in addition to incorrect entry onto the roads. The main road and in front of vehicles in their lane, and wrong overtaking is one of the main causes of many traffic accidents on the roads.” said Brigadier General Engineer Ali bin Salim Al Falahi, Director General of Traffic

He stressed the urgent need for concerted efforts from all segments of society to ensure road safety during Ramadan. He emphasized that road safety is a collective responsibility, involving society, guardians, and schools in educating and guiding individuals, especially children, about safe road practices.

“Society, guardians, and schools have a fundamental role to play in confronting negative phenomena, educating children, advising and guiding them about the dangers of riding bicycles of all kinds, and directing them to the controls and laws for their safety and the safety of road users. The importance of concerted efforts by all members of society to achieve the highest levels of road safety and ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the holy month of Ramadan, and that road safety is a shared responsibility.”
