MUSCAT : The discussions centered on addressing the energy market needs in Germany, emphasizing the significance of energy solutions, and exploring the pivotal role of hydrogen in the energy transition.

Several mutual interests were highlighted during the meeting, paving the way for fruitful collaborations.

A pivotal outcome of the visit was the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding between Omani and German companies, particularly focusing on the supply of green hydrogen to German refineries. A letter of intent for green hydrogen supply was also inked, underlining the commitment to sustainable energy practices.

A significant agreement was reached between Hydrom and German VNG AG, aiming to assess the economic potential of establishing an Omani-German green hydrogen and ammonia value chain. This agreement also entails exploring long-term offtake agreements for green hydrogen and ammonia produced in Oman, indicating a strategic alignment towards sustainable energy initiatives.

Furthermore, Oman LNG signed an agreement with Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) for LNG sales and purchase, further solidifying energy cooperation between the two nations.

Accompanying Oman’s Minister were key officials including Pankaj Khimji, Advisor for Foreign Trade and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, Maitha bint Saif al Mahrouqi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Federal Republic of Germany; Dr Firas al Abduwani, Director General of Renewable Energy and Hydrogen at Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Eng. Abdulaziz al Shidhani, Managing Director of Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom), and Najla al Jamali, CEO of OQ Alternative Energy.

The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation in energy matters, encompassing sharing experiences in green ammonia and other modern energy technologies, facilitating connections between suppliers and consumers, and addressing current challenges in the energy market.

H.E. Al Aufi, during his speech at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue, underscored the importance of international cooperation in energy transition endeavors. He outlined Oman’s vision and policy for the energy sector, emphasizing the development of green hydrogen projects and the necessity of aligning standards and certificates for energy and green products.

Dr. Firas al Abduwani emphasized the visit as an opportunity to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences in the energy sector, with a focus on expanding markets for low-emission hydrogen and supportive policies from both exporting and importing countries.

Eng. Abdulaziz al Shidhani hailed the agreements as crucial for advancing Oman’s national energy transition goals. He highlighted the significance of building a competitive infrastructure for hydrogen production and export, which would not only bolster the sustainable growth of the sector but also support the development of adjacent industries.
