Muscat – The guidelines, endorsed by the Ministry, incorporate traditional practices and modern nutritional science to ensure optimal health during the fasting period.
Following are the key recommendations:
For iftar:
- Begin with a light iftar of dates (rutab), water, and other fruits rich in fructose
- Drink a cup of lukewarm water to prevent stomach cramps
- Break the fast in two stages, before and after prayer
- Ensure a balanced meal, consisting of soups, salads, appetizers, starches, legumes, and meat.
For suhoor - Aim to consume the suhoor meal approximately half an hour before beginning the fast
- Hydrate adequately by drinking 2.5-3 liters of fluids between breakfast and suhoor, avoiding excessively sweetened juices.
- Opt for a suhoor meal rich in fiber, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains
- Include sources of potassium such as lentils, bananas, dates, and yogurt in the suhoor meal.
