Heavy rainfall, hailstorm in many parts of Oman until Sunday morning

Due to the expected heavy thunderstorms accompanied by strong downdraft winds and hail during Saturday night and Sunday morning over governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhylia, Al Dhahira, North Al Sharqiya, South Al Sharqiya, Al Buraimi and Musandam with rainfall amounts ranging from 20-100 mm are anticipated, leading to flash flooding and wadis,with chance of isolated rain over parts of Musandam, Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.

The Civil Aviation Authority advices all to take precautions during thundershower rain, and not to cross Wadis (Flash Flood) and avoid low laying areas and not to sail during alert period.

1. Heavy thundershowers with hail are expected ranging (20 – 100 mm) may cause flash floods (Wadis).
2. Strong downdraft active winds with speed ranging 15 – 40 knots (28 – 75 km/h).
3. Sea state may rise along Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts (2 – 3.5 meters).
4. Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers.

15 people trapped in wadis rescued

The National Committee for Emergency Management responded to 15 reports of individuals trapped in wadis since the onset of the weather conditions. All have been rescued and are in good health.

The Basic Services Sector has confirmed that telecommunication services have been restored across all sites affected by the weather conditions except in wilayat Ibri and wilayat Adam.

Oman weather live: 27 people rescued in two governorates

The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) said it received 14 reports of people stranded in wadis and it rescued 18 people in Al Dhakiliyah governorate and 9 people were rescued from North Al Sharqiyah.

One rescued from wadi

Rescue teams from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority in Al Dhakiliyah responded to a report of a person being detained inside a vehicle in a wadi in Bahla. He was rescued and is in good health.

Rescue underway in several places

CDAA’s Operations Center received two reports about people being detained inside vehicles in the valley streams in Wilayat Adam in Al Dhakiliyah Governorate on Friday evening. CDAA also received another report in the Busaiteen area, where the team could rescue citizens.
