MUSCAT : “Due to the continuity of heavy thundershowers associated with downdraft, fresh winds and hail are expected during Wednesday over the governorates of Al Dhahira, Al Dakhylia, North Al Sharqiya, South Al Sharqiya and Al Wusta governorates, with precipitation ranging from 20 mm to 60 mm – it may be associated with flash floods. There are chances of varying intensity of rainfall over rest of northern governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
The Civil Aviation Authority advices all to take precautions during thundershower rains, and not to cross wadis (flash flood); to avoid low lying areas; and not to sail during alert period.
Following are the alerts:
- Heavy thundershowers with hail are expected – ranging from 20-60 mm, which may cause flash floods (wadis).
- Strong downdraft active winds with speed ranging 15-40 knots (2864 km/h).
- Sea state may rise along Musandam Governorate and Oman Sea coasts (23.5 meters).
- Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers.
