Expat workers’ accommodation in residential neighbourhoods poses problems, says Muscat Governorate

The Muscat Governorate has issued online notices to highlight problems that could arise from housing expatriate workers in residential neighborhoods.

MUSCAT : “Expatriate workers in residential quarters are a threat to the social and cultural structure,” states a notice issued by Muscat Governorate to create awareness.

The notice lists the following problems that could arise from labour accommodations in residential neighbourhoods:

• Possibility of behavioral and ethical problems that may lead to crimes
• Violation of inherent societal privacy
• The low level of health and environmental status of the region because of faulty practices
• Distortion of the urban and aesthetic appearance of the place
• Encroachments that may harm the country’s economic situation
• Threat to family safety in the residential quarter
• Bad health habits such as smoking and tobacco use, which may have a negative impact on young people.
