TAMIL NADU – The government has earmarked substantial funds for these sectors, signalling a concerted effort to enhance connectivity.

This announcement follows a significant meeting between functionaries from Vijay’s fan association, Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (TVMI), and Election Commission officials in New Delhi, initiating the formal process of registering his political entity.

In a statement released on Friday, February 2, the actor expressed his motivation for entering politics, citing the need for a transformative change in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. Vijay outlined his vision for an administration characterized by selflessness, transparency, caste-free governance, and an unwavering stance against corruption.

TVMI, previously functioning as a de facto political force, made its mark in the rural local body polls of 2021, securing a remarkable victory with 115 seats out of 169 contested across nine districts. However, urban polls in the subsequent year saw a different outcome. While engaging in social service initiatives, the fan association has been a pivotal force in Vijay’s political journey.

Vijay decides to enter politics after years of speculation, marked by cryptic statements and strategic moves. The actor’s involvement with TVMI escalated in 2023, with members forming booth committees and engaging in talks with political strategists.

The actor’s political aspirations have not been without challenges. Notably, his film ‘Leo’ sparked controversy with the song ‘Naan Ready,’ where he was seen smoking, hinting at his political ambitions. This isn’t the first time Vijay faced criticism for on-screen smoking, with previous instances drawing attention from political quarters.

Vijay’s clashes with the BJP, primarily related to his film ‘Mersal,’ where he criticized GST and demonetization, added to the political drama. The actor, known for his vocal stance, has faced scrutiny over his Christian identity and has navigated through controversies related to his films and personal life.
