MUSCAT : The Wilayat of Barka in the South Al Batinah Governorate echoed with thundering hooves as the Omani Camel Racing Federation inaugurated today’s much-anticipated annual camel race competitions for the 2023/2024 season.
The Al Fulaij Track hosted a spectacular display of speed and stamina, featuring 69 races across various camel categories, with 28 cars vying for victory and 18 coveted prizes up for grabs. Enthusiasts can look forward to four days of intense competition, blending tradition and skill, and a substantial purse of token and cash prizes.
The morning sessions witnessed a riveting display of talent, with 30 rounds captivating the audience. Notably, “Whirlpool,” “Mission,” “Haytak,” “Madhayar,” “Al-Khawara,” “Prestigious,” and others clinched top positions, showcasing the prowess of their skilled owners.

1,100 camels from various Sultanate of Oman governorates participated, setting the stage for fierce competition. In the evening rounds, “Shawaheen,” “Mawari,” “Walm,” “Nabaa,” “Ladha,” “Mayas,” “Harba,” and “Moazam” emerged victorious, etching their names in the annals of camel racing history.
The competition continues with 18 rounds for the Laqaya category, covering a distance of 5 kilometres, along with two Ardha runs for Sunnah Al-Thanaya and Al-Hawl, spanning two kilometres each.
