The 2019 American black comedy horror film ‘Ready or Not’ was written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy and directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Samara Weaving, Andie MacDowell, Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, and Henry Czerny are among its cast members.

Grace (Samara Weaving), young and beautiful, but an orphan is all set to get married to the man of her dreams Alex Le Domas (Mark O’Brien). She has tolerated enough: Father Tony (Henry Czerny) openly expressing his disapproval of the girl’s status, Aunt Helene (Nicky Guadagni) giving her a dagger-like stare from the moment they met, Sister Emilie (Melanie Scrofano) not even showing up in time for the ceremony, and drunken wastrel Daniel (Adam Brody) making advances on her.

Even though they are an odd group, Grace can finally see the light after they have all gathered at the Le Domas manor for the wedding. After the ceremony is over, Grace begins to unwind. However, Aunt Helene unexpectedly appears in Alex’s bedroom to remind him that one more ritual needs to be completed before they can live happily ever after. Alex forgot to mention that entering the Le Domas dominion requires players to participate in a game.

In the fictional world of the movie, the Le Domas family name is intended to be as commonplace as Milton Bradley or Parker Brothers. Given their chosen industry and their global recognition for their card and board games, Grace views the small moonlit challenge as an eccentric one.

But when Tony tells the story of how the family’s wealth came about — that Great Grandfather Le Domas made his millions only by chance meeting a traveller Mr.Le Bail — Grace takes out “Hide and Seek” from the game box, the whole family gasps and realises something is not right.

For as long as she feels like it, Grace hides in a dumbwaiter, missing the sight of the entire Le Domas family preparing for battle before they start searching for her. Grace realises this is more than just a game when Emilie accidentally kills one of the family’s three maids screaming “I got her”.

Upon carefully perusing the poster, one can easily discern the subject matter of the film. It features numerous macho depictions of Grace, clad in her wedding gown and exuding a post-“Kill Bill” confidence as she charges into battle against the brash Le Domas offspring. Grace is spotted with blood on her clothes, sporting a bandolier, a poorly thought-out joke, and a torn wedding gown.

It’s full of effortless jokes about the arrogance of the wealthy and their insanity when it comes to their mission of finding and murdering a woman on their property.

Weaving’s ability to recognize and express that her clothes are unsuitable for her makes her an endearing action hero. She battles for her life against everyone, including the butler and her young nephews, while wearing a frayed wedding gown. Every wound she sustains serves as a reminder to her that no amount of begging will be able to reverse the deeply ingrained morality that the rich live by. It’s also her first indication that she’s in trouble and that not even her beloved Alex can save her. She is opposing customs and the notion of a family in addition to individuals. 

The only two who make the most of their on-screen time are Czerny and Weaving, bringing the full-bodied humour and wide-eyed terror that this film may have been. 

 Specially the scene where she is trying to escape and is caught by him to unveil the full potential loyalty he holds for a bunch of rich brats with no absolute mercy or just say ruthless offspring running to save their life from exploding into zillions.
