Oman’s fourth annual festival for Persons with Disabilities commences

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth inaugurated the highly anticipated fourth edition of the annual festival for persons with disabilities at the Bawshar Sports Complex in Muscat Governorate.

MUSCAT : Her Excellency Dr Laila bint Ahmed Al-Najjar, Minister of Social Development, graced the occasion as the event’s patron, joined by His Excellency Basil bin Ahmed Al-Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, along with dignitaries and representatives from various government and private entities.


The festival’s extensive lineup features the “Inspired People” symposium, which is dedicated to delving into pertinent issues faced by individuals with disabilities. This initiative seeks to elevate societal awareness and understanding while showcasing their achievements and required services, fostering a culture of inclusion within Omani society.


Many sporting events and programs are set to unfold during the festival, including individual competitions such as races spanning 3 kilometres, bowling, boccia, archery, chess, bocce for those with intellectual disabilities, and badminton. Track and field competitions will encompass diverse activities, from sprint races to relays, shot-put, discus, javelin throws, long jumps, pole vaulting, wheelchair basketball, goalball for blind people, integrated football, and football for people who are deaf.


With a multifaceted approach, the Ministry aims to achieve several objectives, including workforce qualification, private sector sponsorship, talent scouting, social integration, and awareness of disability-related issues in the community.
