Muscat – The celebration of Omani Women’s Day this year aims to highlight the efforts and contributions of women in the cultural and literary fields and to encourage institutions and individuals to launch initiatives supporting women, in addition to honoring accomplished women in the field of culture and literature.
The celebrations began on Sunday morning, October 15, with a poetry recital entitled ‘A Woman from the Side of the Nation’.
The North Al Sharqiyah Governorate will participate as a guest of honor by presenting a program on diverse arts that are specific to the governorate, entitled ‘Gratitude to the Women of Oman’. In addition, the Ministry will hold the ‘National Documents and Manuscripts Exhibition’, which will last for three days.
The exhibition is dedicated to documenting the events, evidence and roles of Omani women from 1728 until the present day. It will present around 50 documents, ranging from correspondence, manuscripts, photos, news, articles, acknowledgments and wills of Omani women in various scientific, literary, military and social fields. The exhibition aims to enhance the role of Omani women, highlight their roles and status throughout the ages, spread awareness in the field of documents and archives, and urge citizens to take the initiative to register their documents and preserve them for the national memory.
On October 16, a critical dialogue session will be held in the field of literature titled ‘Stars in the Sky of Omani Literature’; the day will also witness a theatrical performance called ‘Nominate Me’, to be presented by the Rustaq Theater Troupe.
Besides, the Ministry of Social Development will also honor 30 female personalities in the field of culture and literature. The ceremony includes an operetta of four artistic performances inspired by Omani literary and culture with the participation of a number of Omani poets. The ceremony will feature the launch of a number of initiatives to support Omani women and enhance their role in society.
