MUSCAT : Within the framework of the Ministry of Health’s vision to improve the lives of patients and provide world class health care, the National Organ Transplant Program, in cooperation with the Ophthalmology Department at Al Nahda Hospital, restarted corneal transplant operations at the Hospital.
The National Organ Transplant Program seeks to localize the corneal transplant service in the Sultanate of Oman through an eye bank that works to collect and preserve corneas from donors within the country during the next five years to achieve self-sufficiency and provide this service in all the governorates.
It is worth noting that the Ophthalmology Department at Al Nahda Hospital, affiliated with the Directorate General of Khoula Hospital, possesses Omani competencies with experience in corneal transplantation and other eye operations.
