Muscat – The CPA noted that the fines were imposed for a number of violations, including failure to display prices on goods and failure to provide customers with invoices – which amounted to fines of OMR 800.
Other violations included price discrepancy between the prices mentioned on the shelf and at the cash counter, as well as failure to comply with the goods’ discount rates. There were also promotional offers with misleading prices on some goods, which amounted to a total of OMR 220 in fines.
Additionally, a fine of OMR 100 was imposed on some establishments for raising the price of the approved menu of meals and some goods from the previous price list. Others included sale of children’s toys containing satanic symbols, sale of clothing that were not appropriate to the local customs, as well as sale of expired cleaning products and creams without licenses from the Ministry of Health – amounting to a total fine of OMR 180.

CPA calls on providers to verify the validity of the goods being displayed and to abide by the laws, regulations, and systems in force regarding consumer protection so as to avoid legal accountability. It also urged for cooperation from everyone in order to create a market that is stable and secure for customers.
