MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health is making continuous efforts to reduce waiting lists for surgical operations in hospitals in the Sultanate.
In this regard, Sur Hospital, represented by the Surgery Department, performed approximately 40 cases of removal of thyroid tumors. Patients were transferred from the Royal Hospital to Sur Hospital in order to reduce the waiting lists at the Royal Hospital and out of decentralization and integration in health services.
Dr. Yahya bin Humaid Al-Masrouri, Director of Sur Hospital, said that in implementation and improvement of the principle of decentralization in health services, the hospital inaugurated the Thyroid and Endocrine Surgery Unit. “This inauguration comes as an achievement of joint cooperation between the administrations of Sur Hospital and the Royal Hospital,” he said.

He stated that after the activation of this service, more than 50 patients from the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Sharqiyah who were registered on waiting lists at the Royal Hospital were received, and surgical intervention and the necessary medical service were performed for more than 70 percent of them in the surgery department at Sur Hospital.
He stressed that the presence of this service in the hospital will contribute to alleviating the pressure on the waiting lists at the Royal Hospital, and making it easier for the people of the Governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Sharqiyah, noting that the hospital is working to provide modern medical services to advance health service in Oman.
In the same context, a team from the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department at Al Nahda Hospital in the General Directorate of Khawla Hospital performed a number of ear related operations at Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah.
Dr. Muhammad bin Abdullah Al Rahbi, Consultant Ear Surgery at Al Nahda Hospital in the General Directorate of Khawla Hospital, said that the visit of the ENT team to Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah took three days, where a number of ear bone caries surgeries were performed to reduce the pressure on Al Nahda Hospital in Muscat Governorate.
