MUSCAT : In a clarification issued online, the Ministry stated that its inspection teams do not infringe the rights of pickup trucks that have private plates.
“The Ministry would like to clarify that its inspection teams do not violate small freight vehicles (pick-up type) that carry a private plate and are used for personal purposes; fines are issued only if the vehicle is used for commercial activities,” stated the clarification.
With regard to taxis, the Ministry emphasized the necessity of practicing the activity exclusively by the licensee. It said, “As the executive regulations of the Land Transport Law issued by Ministerial Resolution No. 2/218 stipulates in Article 37, one of the requirements for practicing the activity of taxis for individuals is that he be the owner of the means of land transport; Article 38 prohibits the licensed individual from allowing others to carry out the activity on his behalf.”
