MUSCAT : As per a statement from the CPA, three commercial establishments have been convicted for violating Consumer Protection Law.

The Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah received complaints against a cosmetic centre, a mobile phone shop, and a shipping company for violating the Law and for non provision of invoice in Arabic as well as proof of receipt.

While one of the establishments failed to provide the customer with an invoice for the service and also failed to provide the service properly, another establishment delayed the replacement of a mobile phone that had manufacturing defect and refused to refund its sale price. The third establishment failed to provide the customer with an invoice in Arabic or a receipt for the service provided.

This prompted them to submit their complaint to the Directorate, which proceeded to take the necessary measures and referred it to the Public Prosecution, which in turn referred it to the competent court.

The court found the first establishment guilty of failure to provide the customer with an invoice in Arabic and ordered it to pay a fine of OMR 100. The second and third establishments were charged with misdemeanor for not complying with the provision of the service in a proper manner and for not handing an invoice for the service; a fine of OMR 300 was imposed on each of them.
