OMR 100,000 fine, 7 year jail for violators of anti-trafficking law in Oman

Oman’s Public Prosecution has issued a notice to highlight its efforts to combat human trafficking

MUSCAT – The notice on ‘Combating Human Trafficking’ specifies that any person shall be deemed to be committing a human trafficking crime if they intentionally or for the purpose of exploitation are employing, transporting, harboring or receiving a person by means of coercion, threat, subterfuge, abuse of position or power, exploitation of a state of vulnerability, use of power over that person, or by any other illegal means, whether direct or indirect, for the purpose of exploitation Any person shall be deemed to be committing a human trafficking crime if they employ, transport, harbour, or receive a minor, even if the means mentioned earlier are not used.


The offender shall be sentenced to imprisonment extending to seven years and fine up to OMR 100,000 as per Articles 2 and 8 of the Law on Combating on Human Trafficking. The National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking also stated that “The Sultanate of Oman confirms its commitment to combating human trafficking through a series of local and international measures, including ratification of the Palermo Protocol in 2005, accession to the Arab Convention on Combating Organized Crime across Borders, the establishment of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, and the issuance of Law Combating on Human Trafficking.
