MUSCAT – Indian tourists accounted for 12.2% of the total number of tourists coming to the Sultanate of Oman in 2022. With the growing indicators of global tourism recovery, India represents an important market for tourism to the region, including Oman, which offers competitive advantages in adventure tourism and social events, stated a press note from the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, on the occasion of the launch of its road shows in India.

The road shows will be held in four major cities in India – Delhi, Jaipur, Calcutta, Mumbai – from 24 to 31 July 2023, with the participation of a group of tourism companies and hotel establishments. The first promotional workshop in the Indian capital, Delhi, introduced and promoted Oman’s tourism potentials, its diverse experiences and attractive destinations, in addition to a number of tourism patterns such as weddings and events, conference and exhibition tourism.
Speaking on the occasion, Asma bint Salem Al Hajari, Assistant Director General of Tourism Promotion at the Directorate General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry, said that these road shows are a continuation of the promotional campaigns initiated by the Ministry in India. It contributes to promoting tourism and increasing the flow of tourists from the exporting markets, she stated. She indicated that the number of visitors coming to Oman grew, reaching 1,548,630 visitors during the period from January to May 2023 – an increase of 95.1% compared to the same period last year. Hotels in the 3- to 5-star category also recorded an increase in their revenues to reach OMR 98,431,000 – an increase of 34.7% compared to the same period in 2022.

The number of guests in these hotels reached 801,014 – an increase of 27.3% compared to the same period last year. The program in Delhi also included a speech by His Excellency Issa bin Saleh bin Abdullah Al Shaibani, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman accredited to India. He discussed the long-standing historical ties that unite Oman and India, the levels of joint cooperation in various fields, including the tourism sector, and the importance of such workshops to highlight developments in the Omani tourism sector.
