MUSCAT – The Ministerial Decision No. 11/2023 has been implemented in Oman, which prohibits the production, import, or marketing of food products containing titanium dioxide (E171) and imposes a fine of OMR 1,000 upon violation.

Titanium dioxide is the naturally occurring oxide of titanium. Primarily used as a colorant, it has been used for decades to create the white color in many food products, from baked goods and sandwich spreads to soups, broths, sauces, salad dressings, and food supplements.
