MUSCAT : An individual from a GCC country was arrested for drifting on the “green surfaces” in Dhofar after his video went viral on social media.
The man was seen drifting the car on the green surface. In a statement issued, the Environment Authority of Oman (EA) said Royal Oman Police arrested the person on Monday. “He drifted through the green areas in Dhofar Governorate in a way that affected the safety of individuals, wildlife and vegetation, and distorted the local environment,” EA said.
In such practices, the Environment Agency takes legal measures in accordance with Article (21) of the Environmental Protection and Pollution Control Law, which prohibits cutting, uprooting, or damaging any tree, shrub, or herb from public forests, and the practice of any activity that harms the quantity or quality of vegetation covered in any area. Or it would lead to desertification or distortion of the natural environment.

Article (38) of the same law confirms that whoever violates the provisions of this article shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of not less than 10 days and not more than three months, and a fine of not less than OMR 500 and up to OMR 5000 or one of these two penalties, and the penalty shall be doubled in case of repeating the same violation.
