MUSCAT – In a notice issued online, the DBBS stated: “The need for platelets continues, as they are important for saving the lives of many patients and those injured in accidents, burns, major surgeries such as open heart and organ transplantations involving marrow or liver transplantation, acute bleeding cases, women during childbirth, and newborns (premature babies) and patients who suffer from a deficiency in platelets. “It is also used in the treatment of cancer patients, especially those undergoing chemotherapy, who need platelet transfusions frequently throughout the treatment period.”
