MUSCAT – The Department of Consumer Protection Authority in the South Al Batinah Governorate in Barka, represented by the Directorate General of Consumer Services and Market Control, managed to seize a commercial establishment engaged in manufacturing fraudulent anti-corrosion vehicle engine coolant (radiator water); the product was not licensed by the concerned authorities and did not conform to standard specifications.

The CPA stated that it received confirmed information about a group of expatriate workers manufacturing the adulterated product without obtaining license to use the materials. “The product that was seized was plain water, coloured in red, green and orange by a colouring substance. It was packaged in containers that had seals with expiration dates, and product data label showing that it is anti-corrosive water for the radiator.” said a CPA statement.

Accordingly, the CPA seized more than 4,559 empty containers of 4 liters each that were ready for filling, in addition to colour barrels, water tanks, seals for expiration dates, and 30 ready-made stickers.
The items were confiscated, and necessary legal measures were taken for violating the text of Article 7 of The Consumer Protection Law, which states that ‘it is prohibited to trade in any adulterated, corrupt, imitated or unauthorized commodity, and it is also prohibited to advertise it.’

The Authority affirms that it will spare no effort in following up and monitoring the markets and controlling everything that would harm the health and safety of consumers or detracting from their rights, and taking legal measures against violators. It also appeals to consumers to report any violations they may notice in the markets, through the various communication channels of the authority.
