Celebration of Republic Day and Everest Day at Embassy of Nepal in Oman

MUSCAT : Embassy of Nepal in Oman organized a programme on the occasion of Republic Day and Everest Day at Nepal house on 29 May 2023. Secretary General of National Museum of Oman, Minister Plenipotentiary Mr. Mohammed bin Salim Jadad Al Kathiri, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oman, Heads of Diplomatic Mission/Diplomats, media persons, businesspersons, travel agents, representatives of Oman based Nepali organizations were present on the occasion.

Ms. Nadhira Al Harthy, First Omani women to climb the Everest, Mr. Kabeer Yusuf, Oman Daily Observer, Mr. Anirban Ray, Muscat Daily, Mr. Murtadha Alawati and Ms. Fahiya Al Zadjali, Social Media Campaigners shared their experiences of Nepal and made a very interesting video presentation. Mr. Kabeer Yusuf and Mr. Anirban Ray, media persons/short movie makers showed a short movie they made during their FAM trip to Nepal focusing for tourism promotion and environment protection. Popular singer Mr. Haitham Mohammed Rafi sang a Nepali and Omani songs.

H. E. Dornath Aryal, Ambassador of Nepal to the Sultanate of Oman honored offering Letter of Appreciation engraved in metal plaque to Ms. Nadhira Al Harthy, first Omani women to climb Mt. Everest, Mr. Haitham Mohammed Rafi, Omani singer who sings in more than 15 languages including Nepali, Dr. Chithra Narayan, former goodwill Ambassador of Nepal and a social worker. Ms. Fahiya Al Zadjali, Social Media Campaigner who visited Nepal several times and trekked to 5 basecamps of major Himalayas of Nepal. The Ambassador also honoured offering the Letter of Appreciation to Mast. Akshaj Udiwal, student at Indian school, Al Gubrah, who successfully reached at the base camp of Mount Everest in 2019 at the age of 6 years and 11 months.

While speaking on the occasion Ambassador Aryal highlighted the tourism attractions and opportunities of trade and investment in Nepal. He also shed light on the impact of climate change. He stated that majestic mountains are facing enormous challenges due to rising temperature and extreme weather condition. He further said that mountains are not only eye-catching beauty and sources of fresh water, but also, they significantly help maintain mountain ecological balance in oceans. He also said that mountains are crowns and property of all humankind.

Tourism promotional video was played, and dinner was served on the occasion. Photo-frames of Mt. Everest and tourism materials were distributed to all foreign guests. The programme was organized in association with Nepal Tourism Board and Nepali Community/organizations in Oman. The Programme was conducted by Mr. Gobinda Prasad Acharya, Labour Attaché and Ms. Kabita Khanal, Third Secretary.

Earlier in the morning, Republic Day Programme was organized at Nepal House. The programme was commenced hoisting the Nepali flag by the Ambassador. While speaking on the occasion Ambassador Aryal and Mr. Gobinda Acharya, Labour Attaché underlined the importance and historic background of Republic Day.
