MUSCAT – The medical team from SQUH preformed acute mitral valve regurgitation operations using the ‘mitral valve clip’ system, without the need for open-heart surgery. The operations were led by a qualified medical team consisting of Dr. Fahad Al Kindi, Senior Consultant in the Department of Cardiac Catheterization, and Dr. Adel Al Kindi, Senior Consultant in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at SQUH.
This modern technique is used to treat acute mitral valve regurgitation, and is considered a safe and effective alternative to the traditional open heart surgery. It helps to significantly improve the quality of life for patients, and enables the patient to return home within 1 to 3 days after the operation.
