MUSCAT – The Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah Governorate managed to seize a commercial establishment that sells expired perfumes, whose expiry dates back to 2019, in addition to selling medical products that can be dispensed only with a medical prescription.
Dispensing medical products without a prescription is a violation of Article 7 of the Consumer Protection Law issued By Royal Decree No. 66/2014, which states that ‘it is prohibited to trade in any adulterated, corrupt, imitated or unauthorized commodity, and it is also prohibited to advertise it, and the regulations specify what is considered adulterated, corrupt or counterfeit.’
The Consumer Protection Authority calls on all commercial establishments to adhere to the laws and decisions in force in order to avoid legal accountability. The Authority also stresses on the need to verify the production and expiry dates of consumer goods before purchasing or using them in order to preserve public health.
