MUSCAT: Located in the Wilayat of Manah in the heart of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, the “Oman Through the Ages” Museum is a journey through the cultural heritage and ancient history of the Sultanate, as well as a beautiful architectural exhibit. The primary idea behind the museum is to introduce the youth to the Omani heritage in an interactive and modern way, employing audio-visual aids throughout the two main halls, the History Hall and the Renaissance Hall.

Borrowing elements from the architecture of castles and ancient establishments, the Museum implemented a system that cools the air as it passes between the walls. A relatively low height on the eastern side of the establishment with windows on the west ensures a well-lit interior, while the slanted walls of the museum prevent direct sunlight, making it a rather energy-efficient project. Sprawling across 130,000 square meters, the construction used high-quality stones from the governorates of Al-Dhahirah and North Al-Batinah.

Only an hour and forty-minute drive from Muscat, embarking on a narrative journey from prehistory to the modern days at the “Oman Through the Ages” Museum could make for a fun and educative weekend outing.
