MUSCAT: A video of a massive tornado in Qarih area in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate has gone viral on Saturday.

Confirming the incident the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said: “As a rare meteorological phenomenon in the Sultanate’s airspace, this afternoon a type of tornado associated with huge thunderclouds occurred in the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali.” Several residents have captured the video of the tornado.

Meanwhile, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) said a woman was injured and several properties were damages during the incident.

Oman Met also issued a weather alert on Saturday evening. “Sporadic rain of varying intensity, accompanied by active downwinds will hit on Sunday in the governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and parts of the mountainous regions of the governorates of Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Batinah, and Al Dhahirah,” Oman Met said.
