The Son

Featuring an ensemble cast boasting the likes of Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, and Anthony Hopkins, among many other brilliant performers, The Son follows the father-son relationship in the Miller family across two generations. Peter Miller (Hugh Jackman) is recently married to his second wife, Beth (Vanessa Kirby), and raising their newborn son. His ex-wife, Kate (Laura Dern), unexpectedly shows up and says their 17-year-old son, Nicholas (Zen McGrath), is depressed and has dropped out of school. Peter has a terrible relationship with his own father (Anthony Hopkins), who was cruel when he wasn’t absent from Peter’s life. However, Peter has moved on from his childhood trauma and hopes to be a good father to Nicholas.

The Pale Blue Eye

Veteran detective Augustus Landor investigates a series of grisly murders with the help of a young cadet who will eventually go on to become the world-famous author Edgar Allan Poe. Although the plot of the film features the well-known author Edgar Allan Poe, none of the events in the film are, sadly, true. A visual spectacle punctuated by the marvellous performances of Christian Bale, Robert Duvall, Lucy Boynton, and, of course, Harry Melling, The Pale Blue Eye has earned itself quite a bit of fan-following ever since it released on Netflix on January 6.

This film can be considered one of the most “brilliant pieces of art” to be released this year. Starring Willem Dafoe, Inside follows the story of a high-end art thief who gets trapped inside a luxury, high-tech penthouse in New York’s Times Square after his heist doesn’t go as planned. Surrounded by priceless works of art, he must now use all his cunning and his resourceful nature to survive, and escape!
