WHO closely following developments of Marburg cases in the African region

Dr Ahmed bin Salem Al-Mandhari, Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, pointed out that the current year witnessed an outbreak of Marburg virus disease in Tanzania and New Guinea.

MUSCAT : Dr Ahmed bin Salem Al-Mandhari, Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, said in a statement that the WHO is closely following developments in the emergence of Marburg virus disease cases in the African region, and the organization is working closely with affected countries to combat this disease. He pointed out that the current year witnessed an outbreak of Marburg virus disease in Tanzania and New Guinea.

According to Dr Al-Mandhari, the WHO aims to prevent an outbreak through virus surveillance and support countries at risk to develop plans that will help everyone stay prepared for a bigger outbreak.
