MUSCAT: Israeli airlines are only permitted to fly over Oman airspace but not allowed to land, a top aviation official has confirmed.

Speaking on Monday, His Excellency Eng. Nayef Al-Abri, President of Oman Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said Israeli airlines are not allowed to land at Oman airports unless there is an emergency. “Our statement is very clear. Israeli airlines are only permitted to fly over our airspace and unless there is an emergency landing situation in compliance with what is stated in the international treaty, there is no permission for the airlines to land at Omani airports in any case,” Al Abri noted.

“The Civil Aviation Authority is a technical institution and is committed to international conventions, including the Chicago Treaty that was signed in 1944 and committed to by all countries of the world, and to ensure the Sultanate’s compliance with international treaties in the scope of civil aviation, the approach was by raising the index of the Sultanate of Oman in global competitiveness and ensuring compliance with what it has committed to in this treaty,” he added.
