Shahrukh Khan has returned to the silver screen after a long hiatus of five years, generating insurmountable hype that could only have been possible because of his huge stardom. Fans have been anticipating ’Pathaan’ ever since it was announced, hence the resultant swarms that have crowded the theatres. Given the stronghold of OTT platforms in the realm of visual entertainment, it is undoubtedly an unbelievable feat.

Pathan is the fourth installment in the YRF Spy Universe and is Khan’s comeback film after Zero (2018). The story follows Pathaan (Shah Rukh Khan), a vulnerable RAW agent, who, with his senior officer Nandini opens a unit dubbed Joint Operation and Covert Research (JOCR) which recruits agents, who were retired from trauma and injury in the past, but still have a passion to serve the country. With RAW joint secretary Colonel Sunil Luthra’s acceptance, Pathaan and his team head to Dubai to stop Outfit X, a private terrorist group led by Jim (John Abraham) that plans to kill the President at a scientific conference. However, their plan takes a slight detour, and what follows makes up the core of the plot. An out-and-out entertainer, with witty one-liners, taut action sequences, and a great soundtrack to hold it all together, Pathan deserves the craze it has been receiving. In fact, this film is the sole reason many single-screen theatres have reopened, something that has come to be a dying breed in India, thanks to the reign of multiplexes.
