MUSCAT : The lowest temperature recorded in Jebel Shams today was -2°C. As per previous records, the lowest recorded temperature in Jebel Shams was -9.7°C in January 2015, since monitoring began in 2003.
As per the Met reports, Muscat will have a maximum temperature of 21°C and a minimum temperature of 15°C; Sohar and Sur will have temperatures in a similar range, while Salalah is also expected to have a drop in temperatures like in the northern parts of the country.
There will be accumulation of isolated rainfall ranging from 10 to 60mm, which may cause wadis to overflow. There are chances for frost to form over peaks of mountains. Sea state will be moderate to rough along the coastal areas of Oman Sea with maximum wave height ranging between 2-3 meters. Rapid decrease in temperature over most of the governorates, especially over the mountains peaks.

According to health experts, visitors to Jebel Shams should take care with appropriate winter clothes to avoid cold-related illness such as throat infections and flu, which has already been severe this year. Jebel Shams is the highest peak in Oman, 3,004 meters above sea level with several summits.
