THE HAGUE : Qatar-based news TV network Al Jazeera has submitted the case of slain journalist Abu Akleh to the International Criminal Court on Tuesday, claiming that she was killed by Israeli forces.

The Palestinian-American veteran reporter was wearing a ‘PRESS’ marked bulletproof vest along with a helmet when she was shot in the head at the Jenin refugee camp, a historic hot spot in the Israel-Palestine conflict, on May 11. At the time, she was covering a raid by the Israeli army on Jenin. The Israeli army admitted on September 5 that one of its soldiers had likely shot Abu Akleh after mistaking her for a militant.

Al Jazeera stated that it has unearthed some “new evidence,” leading to them filing a complaint at the ICC. On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid has stated that he will not cooperate with any external probe into Akleh’s death, saying “No one will investigate IDF soldiers and no one will preach to us about morals in warfare, certainly not Al Jazeera.”
