MUSCAT : The Liwa Model City, located near Al Batinah Expressway, is spread over an area of 12 million square meters and accommodates about 30,000 people, with 1300 housing units, and all public services and facilities. It accommodates approximately 3,400 single and double housing units, taking into account the planning of the city to accommodate 50,000 residents and visitors in the future.
The new residential city, being implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, represents an integrated planning model for sustainable cities, as it was built on the principle of active participation with the relevant government agencies and service providers and with the direct participation of people in all stages of planning and designing the city.
It is noteworthy that the project was planned based on the royal orders of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, which stipulated the transfer and settlement of the people affected by the activities of Sohar Port to an integrated residential scheme that includes all infrastructure services and community facilities in accordance with Royal Decree No. 52/2013.
