MUSCAT : Preliminary statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information indicated that the total number of mobile phone subscriptions of all kinds recorded a growth of 13.5 percent at the end of September, to reach 6,665,259 subscriptions.
On the other hand, the total fixed telephone line subscriptions, at the end of September recorded a decrease of 3.8 % to reach 563,027; the total number of fixed internet subscriptions reached about 539,117 subscribers, showing an increase of 3.3%, compared to the same period in 2021. Fixed telephone subscriptions connected to the Internet Protocol technology decreased by 6.5%, while subscriptions of analogue fixed telephone lines (including prepaid and postpaid services) decreased by 13.7% to reach 245,25 lines by the end of September 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.
The Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) channels registered a slight increase of 1.7%, to reach 49,388 lines, and fixed wireless subscriptions decreased by 19.5%, to reach 991 lines, by the end of September 2022.

The data indicated that the number of active subscriptions to mobile broadband Internet reached 5,718,860 subscribers by the end of September 2022, an increase of 12.4% compared to the same period in 2021; total subscriptions to fixed broadband service (more than 256 kilobytes/second), which includes digital leased lines service, fiber-optic home service, fixed fourth generation service, satellite communication service, and leased line service, reached 537,391 subscribers.
The number of low-speed internet subscriptions (less than 256 kb/s), which includes dial-up and some leased internet lines, reached 1,726 subscribers.
The statistics indicated that the total international capacity of the Internet amounted to 2,421,935 megabytes by the end of September 2022, registering an increase of 65.7% compared to the end of September 2021; the number of local leased circles reached about 5,122, and the number of ‘Telex’ lines reached 116 lines.
Muscat Governorate acquired the largest percentage of analogue fixed telephone lines, reaching 60.51%, followed by North Al Batinah Governorate with 11.65%, and Dhofar Governorate with 8.45%, and the share of the rest of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman was 19.39% by the end of September 2022.
