NEW YORK: The Sultanate of Oman affirmed its support for the International Court of Justice and other international courts and legal bodies aimed at resolving and settling disputes between countries by peaceful means as set out in the Charter of the United Nations.
This came when Second Secretary Mohammed bin Ali Al Shehhi, the Sultanate’s permanent delegation to the UN here, addressed the UN General Assembly’s (UNGA) discussion on ICJ on Thursday evening.
The Sultanate drew attention to what was stated in the Basic Statute of the State on the rule of law, observance of international and regional charters and treaties and international laws, which are consistent with the provisions and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

“ICJ is one of the pillars of the global system based on the provisions and principles of international laws, and proved over the past years the ability and integrity in the performance of the mandate entrusted to it through the rulings and fatwas issued by it, which strengthened the rule of law at global level,” the Oman’s representative concluded.
