MUSCAT : In a statement issued by the Ministry on its official Twitter page, the first meeting of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman’s urban planning sector will coincide with World Cities Day (31 October every year). The event aims to enhance the importance of the urban sector and help keep pace with urban strategy outputs.

World Cities Day brings ‘Urban October’ (31 days of promoting a better urban future) to an end on 31 October each year, during which time a global observance is held in a different city each year, focusing on a specific theme.

This year’s global observance is planned to take place on 31 October 2022 under the theme ‘Act Local to Go Global’.

According to the UN Habitat for a better Urban Future’ the objective behind ‘Urban October’ is to bring different partners and diverse stakeholders together to share their experiences and approaches to local action, and assess what local action worked and what is needed to empower local and regional governments to create greener, more equitable and sustainable cities.
